The Divine Inspiration and Authority of the Holy Scripture
Bible references: 2 Tim. 3:16, 2 Pet. 1.:21
At the heart of the Christian faith is a firm belief in the divine inspiration and complete trustworthiness of the Holy Scripture—the Bible. At Hospital Chapel, we uphold the Bible as the infallible Word of God, given by divine revelation and preserved as the ultimate guide for all matters of faith and conduct.
The foundation of this belief is clearly expressed in 2 Timothy 3:16, which declares, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” This means that the Bible is not merely a collection of human writings or historical records, but the very breath of God communicated through chosen men. Similarly, 2 Peter 1:21 affirms, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” These passages establish that Scripture originates from God Himself, making it authoritative, reliable, and true.
Because the Bible is divinely inspired, it is also entirely trustworthy. Its teachings are consistent, its promises are dependable, and its message is unchanging across generations. The Word of God speaks with clarity on the nature of God, the condition of humanity, the way of salvation through Jesus Christ, and the principles for righteous living. In a world filled with shifting values and opinions, the Bible stands as a constant and dependable standard of truth.
The authority of Scripture means that it is supreme in all matters of faith and conduct. It is not subject to human opinion, cultural trends, or personal interpretation that contradicts its truth. Rather, it serves as the final authority by which all beliefs, teachings, and actions are measured. For the believer, the Bible is not optional—it is essential. It guides our decisions, shapes our character, corrects our errors, and leads us into a life that pleases God.
At Hospital Chapel, we are committed to teaching, preaching, and living by the Word of God. We believe that Scripture has the power to transform lives, renew minds, and direct hearts toward God’s will. Through consistent study and application of the Bible, believers grow in spiritual maturity, develop godly character, and become effective witnesses of Christ in their daily lives.
Furthermore, the Holy Spirit plays a vital role in helping believers understand and apply the Scriptures. As the One who inspired the Word, the Spirit also illuminates it, making its truths clear and relevant to every generation. This divine partnership between the Word and the Spirit ensures that Scripture remains alive, active, and powerful in the lives of those who receive it.
In affirming the divine inspiration and authority of the Bible, we acknowledge it as God’s final and complete revelation to humanity. It is the standard for truth, the foundation of our faith, and the guide for our daily living. As we submit to its authority, we align ourselves with God’s purposes and walk in the light of His truth.
